Groundbreaking Ceremonies for 2 Families Devastated by Fritch Fires of 2014

Thursday, February 26th, 2015

Northwest Texas Conference (NWTX) and New Mexico (NM) Conference Bishop W. Earl Bledsoe, Amarillo District Superintendent Paul E. Bauernfeind, NWTX Conference Disaster Relief Coordinator Rev John Westman, Amarillo District Disaster Relief Coordinator Rev David Gerhardt, and Rev Danny Sanders, pastor of First United Methodist Church (FUMC) in Canadian, participated with members of the Matizza and Rogers families in seeking God’s blessing on the building of new homes. Both families lost their homes in the Double Diamond Fire in Fritch, TX in May 2014. Many members of United Methodist Churches in the Conference braved the cold to celebrate with the Mattizza and Rogers families.

FUMC Canadian has issued a challenge pledge of $100,000 towards the home-building efforts. Many sister churches and individuals in the NWTX Conference of the United Methodist Church have also contributed additional funds, $22,785.27 to date, and pledged volunteer efforts towards the building of the homes.
